Samsung Galaxy Fold is reality: the first South Korean company’s folding smartphone is unveiled in San Francisco (HERE OUR DIRECT) after months – years – of continuous rumors, rumors, assumptions and more or less realistic renderings. Heralded in October of last year during the SDC, the smartphone-tablet is the result of 8 years of research (it was 2011 when Samsung showed its first flexible display), and will be placed on the market in the second quarter. So not only S10, S10e, S10 Plus and S10 5G: officially begins the era of folding devices.
The heart of Samsung Galaxy Fold is the Infinity Flex Display 7.3 “(Dynamic AMOLED), able to close up on itself and turn into a compact and easily transportable device. Once opened, it allows you to better appreciate multimedia content, play games or consult the web. It is “a new category of devices”, as defined by the Chairman and CEO DJ Koh. “We created Galaxy Fold for those who want to try out what a premium folding device can do, beyond the limits of a traditional smartphone,” he added.
12GB of RAM, 6 cameras (3 on the back, 2 internal and 1 on the cover), 2 batteries, AKG stereo speaker, Bixby (with the new Routines feature we talked about recently) and, of course, 2 displays: these are some of the cutting edge specifications of Samsung Galaxy Fold, whose complete technical characteristics are available to follow.

Samsung illustrates the main aspects on which it has worked to realize this innovative product category:
The internal display is the thinnest half of any other smartphone display: it is made with a new material that allows the panel to be flexible and at the same time extremely durable, “created to last”.
The opening mechanism is natural, “like a book”, consisting of a hinge (hidden) with multiple interlocking gears that allow the device to close “with a satisfying click”.
The fingerprint sensor is on the side, exactly where you place your thumb to hold the smartphone in hand, while the weight is balanced by two separate batteries (which can simultaneously charge a second device via Wireless PowerShare) and a “reasoned” distribution “Of the internal components.
Samsung Galaxy Fold is based on a custom interface (developed in collaboration with Google) to ensure maximum experience, with the ability to open up to 3 apps simultaneously and have a continuity in transactions between the external display and the internal one. In addition, it is always possible to connect the device to a PC via Samsung DeX.
Samsung Galaxy Fold will be available for purchase in the colors Silver Space, Cosmos Black, Martian Green and Astro Blue from April 26, 2019 starting from 1980 $ (about 2000 € in Europe).
